4—Do I  “Keep” His Commandments?

This will be a continuing theme you will encounter throughout this website, and throughout the Word of God.

God choses to repeat His Commandments throughout His Word, His Testimony.

[That way if some malicious person wanted to delete, even One of His specified commandments, he could not do so easily, or without detection, and without impunity, because God’s Commandments are redundant.

We actually have two copies of the 10 commandments given the Moses and the Israelites.

  • The First Copy was given in Exodus 20:1-17, after being set free from slavery in Egypt, written on scrolls (most likely on sheep skin).
  • The Second Copy was written forty years later, in Deuteronomy 5:6-21, just before the Israelites were preparing to enter into the Promised Land.
  • They also had two copies of the Commandments written in Stone by the finger of God. The first writing was given on Mount Sinai, (aka, Mount Horeb), after the people had entered into a Blood Covenant with Yahweh, with the promise to Keep All Yahweh’s Commandments, including the 10 Commandments. Moses went up the Mountain  Speak with God forty days and forty nights, and  to receive the 10 Commandments written on Stone cut out by the Hand of  God, and written with the Finger of God (it doesn’t get much more official than that. Sadly, thought the Stone Tablets were made to last indefinitely, they did not last very long at all. Instead, they were broken to pieces by Moses, to signify sin that the Israelites and Aaron had committed in making a golden image of a calf and calling it their god who had delivered them from the Egyptians. (That didn’t go well for Israel, BTW.) After totally breaking their covenant with Yahweh, God was angry enough to destroy all the Israelites, and start over with Moses, but Moses interceded (prayed for forgiveness) and God accepted his prayer and called him to come to Him again for another 40 days and nights, and Moses went, and then taking two stone tablets, and Yahweh used this new set of tablets to write his Commandment on them a second time.

Many false teachers falsely preach, that keeping God’s commands is no longer necessary. They also falsely teach that we are saved by grace so we don’t have to concern ourselves with doing good works–which is sometimes called “greasy grace”

These are two strongly imbedded false concepts are taught in many churches around the world. Now is the time to bring correction to such false concepts and their ever popular teachings and teachers.

Let us look to God’s Word and Read it as best we can from God’s Perspective, and Interpret it with God’s Wisdom, and apply it our very lives with God’s Goodness and Grace, as the Spirit of God will reveal His Commandments to Us– that we might obey everyone of them, the way He intended, and originally purposed us to fulfill them in Christ.

John 14:15 (KJV)
If ye love me,
Keep my commandments
.

Take note, there is a vast difference between a commandment and a suggestion, or a preference. A Commandment is non-negotiable.

Can you or I get away with disobeying God’s Commandments, and still stay in Fellowship with God? I would say judging by a preponderance of Scriptural Commandments, the answer to the question would have to be No. But let’s see what God’s word has to say about that question.

John 14:23-25 (KJV)
If a man love me,
he will keep my words:

and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

It appears the kind and quality of Love God is looking for is obedient Love. Like that of a father to his son, and a son to his Father.

If a man love me: That is a conditional statement. What follows is the fulfillment to the statement. Do I love Him? Then I will keep his words, his commands.

Conversely, if I love Him Not, I will not keep his words, commandments, sayings, teachings, instructions, and LAW.

John 14:24-25 (KJV)
He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me. These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

Now we are going to investigate the condition of Entering into Eternal Life–in others words the condition the Good Shepherd gives to us that must be met, in order to enter into heaven. See for yourself:

Matthew 19:17-18 (KJV)
Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

If you or I are lack some joy in our lives, the answer to that problem, the answer to the question: “Why am I lacking His Full joy in my life?” Well … can be clearly answered here. Check this out:

John 15:10-11 (KJV)
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. 11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
