Once Your Conscience gets Seared with a Hot Iron,
You are in grave danger
How does a man or woman learn how to dull their conscience? In other words …
How do we create a hard heart, a dull conscience, and a rebellious spirit?
It doesn’t happen overnight. The whole process grows in stages. And it often gets a lot of help from peer pressure, and social demands for conformity, that actually force a person to choose his or her group affiliation over their own conscience.
Do you remember a time when a group basically forced you into making a decision to follow them, and be a part of the group, or leave the group and obey your own conscience inner conscience instead? I imagine you can think of several examples. (If you are reading this section in a group study: Ask a couple people to share their own personal experiences with this peer pressure phenomenon.)
Searing your Conscience actually takes time and effort, and repeated experience. In fact, it takes a while to build up a thick callous on your heart. It takes will power to create a dull conscience, and even more effort to create a seared conscience. It takes personal investment and determination to not serve God by the Spirit, but to serve the flesh.
Some people I meet say, “Yeah, but it is so hard to serve God.” Actually my response should be, “Well, is is actually far harder not to serve God.”
The truth be told: I fully believe in the near future this truth will play itself out in real time, and fully confirm my response.
When a man does something wrong the first time, he gets a gut wrenching feeling that he is doing something wrong. And that strong feeling can be listened to and obeyed or ignored and overridden.
If he chooses to override his strong sense of right and wrong by going against his conscience, the next time he is tempted to do that very same wrong thing, the gut wrenching feeling will be slightly less. And the next time even less. Next time? Even less. Until at some point he won’t feel anything at all.
This diminishing sense or right and wrong doesn’t actually go away, we just develop a callous, a thick skin. a hard heart, a seared conscience against obeying doing what is right.
That is when the scripture describes a man as having his conscience seared as with a hot iron.
1 Timothy 4:1-2 (KJV)
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
As you can see from above the man with a seared conscience is doing this all alone. He is getting plenty of help and assistance in the work of searing his own conscience. He has many special friends helping him, both spiritual and physical. Before he can sear his conscience, he must give in to seducing spirits. And seducing spirits will use all avenues available to get to the young man, in order to help sear his conscience against the will of God, the Truth of God, the Life of God, and the Righteousness of God.
One thing we need to understand: A seducing spirit can and will speak to us through another human being who has already been seduced and recruited to do the will of darkness.
Here is just one example, of a seducing spirit, coming to add one more victim into her trap:
Proverbs 7 (KJV)
1 My son, keep my words,
and lay up my commandments with thee.
2 Keep my commandments, and live;
and my law as the apple of thine eye.
3 Bind them upon thy fingers,
write them upon the table of thine heart.
4 Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister;
and call understanding thy kinswoman:
5 That they may keep thee from the strange woman,
from the stranger which flattereth with her words.
6 For at the window of my house
I looked through my casement,
7 And beheld among the simple ones,
I discerned among the youths,
a young man void of understanding,
8 Passing through the street near her corner;
and he went the way to her house,
9 In the twilight, in the evening,
in the black and dark night:
10 And, behold, there met him a woman
with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.
11 (She is loud and stubborn;
her feet abide not in her house:
12 Now is she without, now in the streets,
and lieth in wait at every corner.)
13 So she caught him, and kissed him,
and with an impudent face said unto him,
14 I have peace offerings with me;
[And yes, she can be religious,
which only further confuses the young man]
this day have I payed my vows.
15 Therefore came I forth to meet thee,
diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.
16 I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry,
with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.
[Carved works {idols}, and the linen of Egypt is a reminder of Israel’s bondage, and how they served sexually immoral idols in Egypt. Even after they had been delivered out of their bondage, they wanted to create an Idol, have a Idol worshipping Party, and forget Moses, and return to Egypt. That was a major step in their continual downfall, throughout their national history. The people of God were constantly being seduced by seducing spirits, and this was a call to Wisdom, written by a man who also fell into the hands of seducing spirits, and worshipped and served idols in his later years, being turned away from serving Yahweh, by his many idol worshipping wives. This was written by Solomon, son of King David, who also was seduced, and betrayed and abandoned Yahweh for a season of foolish, that nearly destroyed his whole family: Four of David’s Sons were killed. Two by other sons. One by his commanding officer, and one by God. And yes, David, did go down to the depths of Hell in a virtual way … and barely made it out alive.]
17 I have perfumed my bed
with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning:
let us solace ourselves with loves.
19 For the goodman is not at home,
he is gone a long journey:
20 He hath taken a bag of money with him,
and will come home at the day appointed.
21 With her much fair speech she caused him to yield,
with the flattering of her lips she forced him.
22 He goeth after her straightway,
as an ox goeth to the slaughter,
or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
23 Till a dart strike through his liver;
as a bird hasteth to the snare,
and knoweth not that it is for his life.
24 Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children,
and attend to the words of my mouth.
25 Let not thine heart decline to her ways,
go not astray in her paths.
26 For she hath cast down many wounded:
yea, many strong men have been slain by her.
27 Her house is the way to hell,
going down to the chambers of death.
When a man sears his heart, his conscience, and the core of his moral being with a burning white hot iron rod, he has figuratively jumped off the train going to Heaven, and has mounted the train barreling down into the pits of Hell.
And the very thing designed to save him from his disaster is his conscience, the one thing he will willingly, and purposely destroy, in order to follow the seducing spirit and those who walk in it.
From Heaven’s perspective, that is called an act of Rebellion, and it is a dangerous one. Jumping ship from one allegiance to another. Jumping from the frying pan into the fire of. Hell itself.
That one act will be more devastating to him than he can possibly imagine. That one act will open the door to the flood gates of hell to come pouring into his life, and there will be little he can do to stop it.
How do you know if you have seared you conscience as with a hot iron?
Here is a clue you are heading down that road, and in danger of losing your soul:
- When you find yourself doing something that you know is wrong but you do it anyway,
then you are diving into deep danger. - When you care more about satisfying your lust, than doing what you know is right,
then you know you are walking along the razor thin edge of spiritual darkness, - When you stop listening to God through your conscience, then start listening solely to the evil one,
then you being set up for a terrible fall. - When you outright refuse to listen to God’s Holy Voice, Even a direct warning from God Himself,
then you are about to make the biggest mistake of your life.
Like Cain, who killed his one and only brother, who had done Cain no wrong whatsoever. Why? Because Cain chose to sear his conscience by refusing to listen to the wise counsel and the very voice of God. - You will even deny the wrong you did to God’s Face, and have no regret for the evil you have done.
- You will have graduated the official title of a psychopath.
- At this point, you have been completely cut off from the Kingdom of Light, you have chosen the darkness, and you will be given over to do your own desire, and your own will (through Satan’s wick direction) against the will of God.
One of the worst consequences of sin and rebellion to God, is the desire to do more sin, and to deepen your rebellion to God. This is something most atheists, agnostics, anti-god cultists, and pagan cult worshippers, do not factor into their own faith and beliefs. That the more they turn away from God, the more God allows them to turn away from Him. That is the reward for their rebellion and disobedience to Him. It will develop into an antagonism, and even a despising, and a reviling spirit, especially when the person realizes how far away from God they have really gone.
It is a simple formula that goes like this: The more you sin. The more you want to sin. With each step of sin you take, you are that much further away from God as a consequence. The more you sin, the more steps you take, the further you are away from the only one who can truly save you.

And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
You may have noticed that many people carry around with them in their bodies, the recompence of their error which is meet. One way to say that is that they have received “the due penalty of the wrong they have done, and keep doing, which is equal to the crime they keep committing.
In Romans 1:27, it is clear, the penalty and recompense being written down, is for sexual sin, and not just any sexual sin, but for woman leaving the natural desire for men, and having sex with other women. And men leaving the natural design of sex with their spouse, to having sex with other men. And the recompense is a fracturing of their soul, their character, their identity, and their whole being. Another recompense, is the Sexually Transmitted Disease they will gain from having more than one holy virgin partner reserved for them from birth.
When you are tempted to do something above your ability to resist the temptation, you are entering very dangerous waters. As soon as you realize that is it time for you to run.
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 (NIV)
18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
This what Joseph did in Potiphar House, when Potiphar’s tried to seduce him:
Genesis 39:10-12 (KJV) And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her. 11 And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within. 12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.
It is a choice of the soul to stop resisting temptation, and just give in to it no matter where the consequences will lead.
It is a place of tremendous darkness, it is the food of serial rapists, murders, megalomaniacs, and psychopathic liars.

These are some of the worst things that could happen to an individual, group, or nation.
Why? Because once the conscience is gone (or severely hindered, blocked, or enslaved), there is virtually no limit to the evil that someone can do.
